How To Pay For Drug Rehab

No matter how serious a substance use disorder is, some level of professional treatment is vital. Those who are on the brink of addiction may benefit from outpatient treatment services. While those who have been battling long-term drug addiction may find themselves better suited for inpatient rehab. If you have a drug addiction, going to drug rehab is critical for your future.

By the time you realize that you need drug rehab, you may not be in a state of mind where you can iron out all the details about your involvement in care. You might not even be in a place where you can fully process what is happening in your life. That’s completely normal. But when it’s time to pay for your drug rehab, you will need to know just what to expect.

It is no secret that drug rehab can be costly. The unfortunate aspect of this is that most people needing treatment have squandered away their funds to support their addiction. They are living in low-income areas, or need to find some way to obtain free rehab. The cost of professional addiction treatment is by far one of the most common barriers to treatment for those who need it most, as it is not typically fully covered by most insurance companies, nor is it usually affordable out-of-pocket. So, when the time comes for you to pay for rehab, you are going to want to know what your options are so that you can figure out what works best with your financial situation.

How to Pay for Drug Rehab

If you need drug rehab, there is usually no way around it. Attempting to get sober on your own and maintaining your recovery without the skills and support of others is nearly impossible. It is imperative that you look at drug rehab as an investment rather than just another thing tying you to debt. That is because drug rehab saves lives, especially the lives of those who need it the most. So, do everything you can to make peace with that and go forward with a plan that works for you best.

There are all types of drug rehab facilities that you can attend, ranging from private rehab and public rehab to Christian-based rehab and gender-specific rehab. When you decide which type of rehab is right for you, it is time to figure out how to go about paying for it. Some options include the following:

  • Financing — Many drug rehabs offer financing options, similar to what you might see in colleges. You can take out the money you need via a loan and develop a repayment plan. This allows you to start your treatment as quickly as possible. Also it gives you the opportunity to plan ahead on how to make regular payments.
  • Insurance — Insurance companies have come a long way when it comes to providing coverage for substance use disorder services. The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 states that insurance companies must provide the same level of coverage to mental health/substance abuse treatment as it does for medical and surgical purposes. Therefore, if you are insured, you can receive coverage. Coverage may only be partial and you may need to attend a treatment center within the network to access that coverage, but it can help take down what you owe by a significant amount. The leftover tab you receive will need to be paid out-of-pocket, but depending on your coverage, that might not be an outrageous number. You need to call and speak with your insurance company to know what your plan allows you to do and what it restricts you from.
  • Asking for help — Many people who are at the point of needed drug rehab have little to no financial resources. If you don’t have insurance and you are currently low income or have no money to pay for drug rehab, asking for help can work. Asking friends or family for money to help pay for your drug rehab might seem like an outrageous request. But many loved ones of a drug addict agree to pay for treatment because of how important it is. If you borrow from loved ones, you can work with them to develop your own repayment plan. You can replace the funds they have taken out to help you get back on your feet.
  • Selling assets — Nothing about addiction is glamorous, despite what you might see in the movies or on TV. If you are unable to obtain financing, do not have insurance, and your loved ones are unable to pay for your treatment, you may need to get creative. As tough as it will be, consider selling off some of your assets if you can. For example, you can sell an unused car, boat, etc. to help pay for the cost of care. Getting as creative as possible can help you rake in some cash that you can put towards your recovery.

No matter where you may be in your finances, do not let it detract you from attending drug treatment. Those who go through addiction treatment programs have higher success rates in their recovery and are less likely to relapse. Studies show that the longer you remain in rehab, the more promising the outcome. So, if you are battling drug addiction and can’t stop on your own, reach out for help

  • First I’ll start by saying that, this facility is absolutely beautiful! A couple years ago my husband Tony attended Hathaway Recovery in Claremont Ca. While Tony was in residential he received every care needed for a successful recovery. Also, he was able to enjoy the home gym at the beautiful Hathaway home, it’s basketball court, pool and etc. which made his stay even more pleasant. I am forever grateful for the man Tony has become ever since his completion. He has two years clean under his belt and many more to come because of the amazing facility. Thanks again Hathaway Recovery and Staff, Keep Continuing Changing Lives, God Bless Diane and Tony

  • I came to Hathaway Recovery on court orders stemming from charges due to not taking medications for my mental health. I was fearful of what my future held and what that would look like. I have never been to a dual diagnosis treatment program before, and I didn’t know what to expect. I really didn’t think I had a substance abuse problem but after about 3-4 weeks of group therapy and the counselors here at this facility, I finally realized substance abuse influenced me to not be able to take care of my mental health. With the help of Hathaway Recovery’s team, I was able to build a strong foundation for my recovery that is vital to me and my family. The clinical staff, therapist, case managers, and counselors included, were honest, caring, and really helped me gain the knowledge I needed to build this recovery program and lifestyle. I am forever grateful for the treatment at Hathaway Recovery.

  • As a Trauma Informed Therapist I was contracted by Dina , the Owner to provide additional Trauma Informed Counseling. She indicated that she was seeking additional clinical services because her client population were enthusiastic about their recovery and she wanted to provide quality care. Working with Hathaway has been magical. This program does not separate addiction and mental health trauma into separate treatments, This program blends together the understanding that addicts have childhood trauma and have habitually used drugs or alcohol to dull their inner pain., Hathaway Recovery provides highly individual services for each client, including bilingual counseling. This is a program that I am proud to be a part of. Susan Pennington, LCSW – Trauma Informed Counseling Services.

  • Hathaway Recovery Center is the real deal. They helped me find myself when I was completely lost. After I lost the mother of my child due to a tragic accident. The therapists and counselors truly cared. We made a relationship with each other that was unbreakable. The other clients were awesome roommates and true to me. The house managers were great and the living situations were awesome. If I ever even think about slipping up I’ll be returning. Today I have over one year clean.
